Digital News Report – Sony Corporation said yesterday that thieves may have stolen information from 24.6 million SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) accounts.
Apparently the information was taken from “outdated” 2007 databases. That information included 12,700 non-U.S. credit or debit card numbers and expiration dates. They said no credit card security codes were taken.
Sony is working with the FBI to hunt down those responsible for the theft. They are also working to restore all services and send emails to customers who had their data stolen.
The information included:
name
address
e-mail address
birthdate
gender
phone number
login name
hashed password.
There was even more information stolen from customers in Austria, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands. That data included bank account numbers, account name, and the customer’s name and address.
Sony will give customers 30-days of free service for the one day that their service was down.
