Digital News Report – Today, the City of Santa Cruz will celebrate James Durbin Day even though the contestant was voted off of this week’s “American Idol” TV show. James Durbin will be in Santa Cruz to perform songs with friends called The White Album Ensemble at the Boardwalk’s beach bandstand.
Prior to this, there will be “Kids on Broadway” theater group along with the Santa Cruz High School marching band, who along with James Durbin, will make a small parade through the streets to end with at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. The parade procession starts around 4 – 4:30 p.m., with Durbin arriving at the Boardwalk bandstand around 5 p.m. to perform. Street closures will be on Center Street, Pacific Avenue and Beach Street to the Main Beach.
“Our community is extremely proud of James, ” said Santa Cruz Mayor Ryan Coonerty, “And we’re excited that American Idol made this exception to allow him to return home to a big Santa Cruz welcome.”
