Digital News Report – The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors announced two public meetings on June 14, 2011 at 10:45 a.m. and the second on June 20, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the redistricting of the district borders.
The district borders need to be remapped because of the recent Census Data and complying with the U.S. Constitution, California Elections Code and the United States Voting Rights Act. The population changes so do the district borders.
The Board of Supervisors are holding two public meetings. The first of the two meetings will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 10:45 a.m. at the Board Chambers of the Government Center, located at 701 Ocean Street in Santa Cruz. The second public meeting will be held at the Watsonville City Council Chambers, 275 Main Street in Watsonville on June 20, 2011 at 7:30 p.m.
The deadline for the redistricting to be completed is set for November 1, 2011. The Board of Supervisors also has set August 23, 2011 for considering the redistricting plan and start with Public Hearings at that time.
Santa Cruz County population is 262,382 which is an increase of 6,782 since the last census 10 years prior. Below is a list of the population and the amount that each district is over or under. Each district should have as close to 52,476 population as possible.
